Navy SC clinch women’s cricket title

Unbeaten Navy Sports Club beat Air Force Sports Club comprehensively by 6 wickets in a low-scoring Women’s division 1 cricket final played at Colts grounds on Thursday. 

Air Force won the toss and elected to bat first but they were only able to score 86 runs. Left-arm seamer Udeshika Prabodhani ripped through the Air Force top order taking 3 wickets. 

Off-spinner Shashikala Siriwardana and Inoka Ranaweera also grabbed 2 wickets apiece. 

Sanduni Abeywickrama and Sripali Weerakkody were the only two batswomen to blossom as they made 23 each. 

Chasing a paltry 87 runs to win, Navy reached their target in the 24th over. Left-handed Hasini Perera made 26 while opener Lasanthi Madushani scored 16 for the winners. Oshadi Ranasinghe grabbed 2 out of the 4 wickets that fell. 

 

Air Force – 86 all out in 33 overs: Sanduni Abeywickrama 23, Sripali Weerakkody 23, Udeshika Prabodini 3/11, Inoka Ranaweera 2/10, Maduri Samuddika 2/14, Sashikala Siriwardena 2/16.

Navy – 87/4 in 23.1 overs: Hasini Perera 26, Lasanthi Madushani 16, Oshadi Ranasinghe 2/16.
