Sri Lanka Cricket announced a large pool of 37 players for the upcoming under 19 tour of UAE to play Pakistan in October.
This tour will be the ideal foundation for the next ICC Youth World Cup in 2016 as it will start on January 22nd in Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka Cricket conducted under 19 zonal matches and discovered the potential players from a pool of 60 and now the junior selection committee has trimmed it to 37.
Charith Asalanka from Richmond College is expected to be the captain of the side coached by experienced Roger Wijesuriya. Stylish batsmen Avishka Fernando, left-handed batting duo of Kavin Bandara and Salinda Ushan are the most experienced out of the lot while wicket-keeper batsman Vishad Randika is also a potential match-winner.
The younger brother of Sri Lanka cricketer, Chathuranga De Silva is Wanindu Hasaranga De Silva. He is right-arm leg-spinner and a capable batsman who can win games alone just like Sammu Ashan who is also named in the squad. Fast-bowling all-rounder Jehan Daniel is another exciting talent while fast bowlers, Lahiru Kumara, Kavishka Anjula and Himesh Ramanayake (Son of Sri Lanka fast-bowling coach, Champaka Ramanayake) can be handy customers with the ball.
Out of the selected 37, 22 players are from Colombo District schools while others are from Kandy or Galle.
Most of these players are currently participating in the ongoing SLC under 23 cricket tournament and the final squad of 15 will be notified later.
