All Island U-19: Petes bid adieu

St. Peter`s College walked away in despair as the as they missed the two scoring opportunities at the last minute which cost the game as the final score board read 58-64 in favor of Asian International School.

The match commenced with the dawn of the day as early as seven in the morning at St.Peter`s College, basketball courts. Home team won the jump ball but failed to get the scoreboard ticking. The visitors managed to maintain a seven-zero run for five minutes in the maiden quarter. Even though the Peterites did have the home advantage; they seemed to have lost their course in both offense and defense. Even AIS did take a considerable time to settle themselves into the game. Since the all the departments of the home team was below par it was not a tough ask for the visitors to up the score through odd shots. The maiden quarter closed down with an eight point lead favoring the visitors.

Even though the Peterites did try to settle themselves into the game during the second quarter,  they were miserable as before. Rebounds were never in line for the home team. The two post players lacked rhythm and hence AIS did have a handful of second chances in ticking the score board. AIS opting for a man-to-man defense secured their territory well. Even though the strategy of the Peterites was a fine one; the execution was not right. AIS scored most of their points penetrating into the defense of the Petes. AIS led the game comfortably with eight points as the game was called off for lemons.

Peterites were in desperate need to settle themselves and they did a fair bit of a job after the ten minute break. The revitalized home team came back hard at the visitors. Running the ball from this corner to the other they scored in quick succession. Even though the visitors did have a ten minute break they did not seem to have refueled. 

Tired limbs failed to defend the territory. Petes adopting to the situation etched both defensive and offensive rebounds better when compared to the first quarter.Home lads closed down the deficit up to five points as the score board read 47-42 at the end of the third quarter.

The final six hundred seconds commenced and the Peterites were on top of the game as they squared the game 52-52 with less than four minutes to run down. Even though AIS did struggle to cope up with the fitness levels they did not  seem to let go. AIS succeeded in swishing the nets a couple of times in quick succession as they shot down the arc and got the lead back. Peterites missed on the last two possessions which was the moment that swapped the fate of the game. With not enough time on the clock there was nothing much the home team could do other than to walk away in despair.
