High Jumper Manjula Kumara Wijesekara and Long Jumper Anjani Pulawansha were adjudged best male and female athlete in the open category of the Ceylonese Track and Field Club (CT &FC) Championship concluded at Diyagama yesterday.
Manjula equalled his winning feat of 2:23m at the National Championship to set a new meet record here on Saturday, while Pulawansha leaped 5:64 metres. Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa was adjudged champions in the boys’ category, while St. Bridget’s Convent Colombo was adjudged girls’ champions.
Former South Asian Games Gold Medalist Umanga Surendra clocked 10.82 seconds to win the 100m in the open men’s category while Nipun Sandamal too clocked the same timing to win the under 20 boys 100m. Supipi Dilrukshi clocked 13.0 seconds in the 100m under 20 girls’ category, which was the fastest time at the meet by a female, while under 14 girl’s 100m winner Imasha Fernando of Lyceum International School too clocked an impressive 13.1 seconds.
Harindu Kasuntha won the best male athlete award in the under 14 category, which was the lowest age group at the meet, for his 12.10 seconds in the 80m hurdle, while Gateway’s Sandeepa Henderson leaped 4.87m in the long jump to win the girls under-14 best athlete award.
