Shirantha elected president of National Shooting

Shirantha Piries was elected as the President of The National Shooting Sport Federation (NSSF) of Sri Lanka under the patronage of the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, at its Annual General Meeting held at Reef Edge Hotel Uswetakeiyawa recently. Shirantha Piries is the first civilian based member to become the President of NSSF.

This is oldest sports club in the country. It was started in 1870 as the Ceylon Rifle Shooting Association in the colonial period.

Shirantha Piries is a product of St. Joseph’s College Colombo, and is a former shooter who achieved a great deal in the shooting championships.

Speaking to the press, newly appointed President Shirantha Piries said: “This is the first time the NSSF is coming under a civilian administration, as earlier in the past years the Federation was run by Sri Lanka Forces”.

He also revealed that the new committee of NSSF hopes to bring down two international trainers on 04 August and is planning to do a workshop for 45 members of the National Pool and were also hoping to organize the open championship on 6 August.

“So far 200 school children’s are engaged in this sport and we will continue to take this sport around Sri Lanka and popularize it among the school children. We have also planned to conduct more tournaments in the process,” Shirantha Piries concluded.
