National Athletic Championship, rolled out for the 5th occasion will be worked out at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapakse Stadium over a period of 3 days from 31 August to 02nd September.
It will be the first time since the Asian Athletic Championship, which was held in Odisha India in July, the top Sri Lankan Athletes will be seen in action with the exception of the two marathoners Anuradha Cooray, Hiruni Wijerathne , 800m runner Nimali Liyanarachi and Javelin thrower Waruna Lakshan who competed at the World Athletic Championship that concluded earlier this month.
Speaking to ThePapare.com vice president of the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka (AASL) Mr. G.L.S Perera confirmed that the association has received close to 900 entries from athletes who will represent all 25 districts of the country. He also confirmed that athletes belonging to the elite and the super elite squads will be on display during the span of three days and will vie for national honours in track and field.
