Teams from around Asia gather in Manila for three days of intense racing.

Dubbed the ‘Henley of the East’ after the famed English regatta, the annual ARAE-FEARA Regatta is a much looked forward to event in the Asian rowing circuit. The Amateur Rowing Association of the East was formed by the British in the 1930’s to form bonds between rowing clubs in their eastern colonies. Its present focus is promoting rowing among the youth.

The first regatta was held in Pune in 1933 and has since become an annual event.  The FEARA or Far East Amateur Rowing Association is for Master rowers, those above the age of 35. The Super FEARA, for Super Master rowers above 50 years of age, introduced in ARAE 2012.

This year the regatta is being hosted by the Manila Boat Club on the Paoay Lake.Teams have been arriving in the Philippines since the 13th in preparation for the regatta which will last from the 18th to the 20th. 

Races will be held in Men’s and Women’s categories for four events: the Single Scull, Double Scull, Coxless Pairs and Coxed Fours.

The Colombo Rowing Club has sent a delegation of five rowers to the prestigious event: MaheelGamage, Sajeev de Silva, ShehanMuthugala, SubashiniKularatne and Ishika de Silva.
