The 70th Battle of the Golds, played between Moratu Maha Vidyalaya and Sri Sumangala College, Panadura ended in a draw today (30th July) at De Soysa International Cricket Stadium.
After being 98/9 at the close of play on day one, Sri Sumangala College ended their first innings at 109 runs. Kavindu Gayathra top-scored for the lads from Pandaura with a knock of 48 runs, while Malith Rupasinghe starred with the ball for the Moralians, taking 4 wickets for 22 runs.
Moratu Maha Vidyalaya began their second innings 13 runs behind, but showed a much better batting display in the second essay. They posted 180 runs for 8 wickets before declaring the innings, setting a 168-run target for Sri Sumangala College.
Vishwa Didulana, who scored 63 runs off 113 balls with 7 fours, was the chief contributor with the bat for Moratu Maha Vidyalaya, while Isuru Nidarshana chipped in with a useful 45-run knock. Chasing 168 runs to win, the lads from Panadura posted 76/2 at the close of play on final day.
