Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya beat Rahula College, Matara by 72 runs to win the 6th Battle of the Golden Lions One Day encounter was worked off yesterday (28th August) at Dharmapala Vidyalaya Grounds in Pannipitiya.
Binura Sanketh, the skipper of Rahula College won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first. Thisara Wickramasinghe and Uditha Sandaruwan opened the batting for Dharmapala Vidyalaya and provided a good start to the innings putting on 45 runs in 8.4 overs.
However, Dharmapala Vidyalaya lost two quick wickets within the next two overs pushing them onto the backfoot. The opening batter Wickramasinghe and No. 4 batter Rashmitha Emantha then rescued the innings, building the most successful partnership of the innings with 62 runs off 55 balls.

Wickramasinghe top scored with a knock of 68 runs off 53 balls including 6 fours and 4 sixes while Emantha contributed with valuable 41 runs off 83 balls as Dharmapala Vidyalaya posted 221 runs in 48.3 overs.
The off-spinner Ovin Bopage was the pick of the bowlers for Rahula College as he grabbed 4 wickets for 42 runs while Janiru Wijewardana gave him good support at the other end, claiming 3 scalps for 38 runs.
In reply, Rahula College posted only 149 runs all-out handing a convincing 72-run win to Dharmapala Vidyalaya. The leg spinner Sachintha Chamika ripped through the Rahula batting lineup taking 6 wickets for 42 runs.
