Sri Lanka Badminton has organized the prestigious National Badminton Championships 2018 to be held from the 29th October to 3rd November, 2018 at the Royal College Sports Complex.
The SLB has taken steps to uplift the standards of the tournament, to fall in line with the international standards.
Over a thousand players will take part in the tournament over a span of 3 days. The top ranked 30 players will join the tournament in the second round while the lower ranked players will have to qualify through the qualification round. Matches are scheduled to commence at 8am each day.
The head of Sri Lanka Badminton Federation also expressed his thoughts – “We have had a very difficult road to this point but this time we have managed to finally kick off the tournament in a positive manner. We would also like to thank our sponsors Sunrise & Co and Pyramid Wilmar.
A prize award of Rs 750,000 will be offered to the winners while certificates and medals will be awarded to the runner-ups.
The finals and the awards ceremony will be graced by the Minister of Sports Mr. Faiser Musthapa.
The events that will be worked out will be as follows;
- U13 Boys/Girls – Singles/ Doubles
- U15 Boys/Girls – Singles/ Doubles
- U17 Boys/Girls – Singles/ Doubles
- U19 Boys/Girls – Singles/ Doubles
- Open Men’s Singles/Doubles
- Over 35 Men’s Singles
- Over 40 Men’s Singles
- Over 40 Women’s Singles
- Over 50 Men’s Singles
- Over 55 Men’s Singles
- Men’s Veterans Doubles
- Women’s Veterans Doubles
- Master’s Doubles
SLB has also planned to conduct a training program for selected players from all provinces to uplift the standards of provincial players during the National Championships. This will be conducted by Mr.Tony Wahyudi who is the national coach of Sri Lanka at the moment.
