Prince of Wales College and St. Sebastian’s College had to be satisfied with only with a tame draw as rain took the center stage in their 65th Battle of the Golds which ended on Saturday at De Soysa grounds in Moratuwa.

Only one session was possible on day 2 as rain completely destroyed any hopes of play on Saturday. Prince of Wales College continuing from their overnight score of 208/3 lost their skipper Jayanga Peiris early on to the bowling of Nimesh Bandara and the off-spinner removed young Vishwa Chathuranga two balls later as POW was restricted to 210 for 5.

The biggest highlight of the brief day two proceedings was when Hasitha Lanka reached a well-deserving century but he was later dismissed by Pramesh Fernando for 110 runs which were scored in 157 balls and he struck 15 fours and 2 sixes.

After batting for 75 overs, the Cambrians declared their innings on 262 for 7. The Bastian’s in their reply lost their skipper Visal Senanayake for no score when he was clean bowled by the centurion, Hasitha Lanka. Sri Lanka youth player, Avishka Fernando made 26 off 25 deliveries as St. Sebastian’s College were 33 for 1 in 12.2 overs when rains came down heavily just after noon.
