Dharmasoka and Devananda settle for a draw

The Golden Jubilee clash between Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda and Devananda College, Ambalangoda, the 50th Battle of the Blues ended in a draw at De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa on Sunday.

Devananda commenced day two on 96 for 7 in chase of Dharmasoka’s first innings score of 159. Kavindu Sohan who was 35 overnight rallied with the tail scoring a fighting 83* to take Devananda to 175 all out in 72.3 overs, handing them a first-innings lead of 16 runs. Lasith Kumara was the pick of the bowlers grabbing 5 for 21 while skipper Ushan Imantha and Dinuka Dishan captured 2 wickets apiece.

The Sokians in their second essay struggled to get going on a difficult surface. They managed only 94 runs in 55 overs, losing 7 wickets. The slow run-rate of 1.70 completely hampered the chances for the Nandians to push for a win.

Kasun Maduranga was the top run-getter for Dharmasoka in their second innings with a fighting 28 while off-spinner Chathura Milan scalped 4 wickets for Devananda.

In fading light, Dharmasoka decided to declare the innings setting a target of 79 for Devananda lads to reach but they were able to post 2 runs for the loss 3 wickets in 4 overs when the umpires called it a day.
