The entries for the 46th National Carom championship had been closed last evening with the draw to be held at the National Carrom Federation Headquarters, Maharagama the next day. The entries, which were opened for weeks, was both to men and women under different age categories. The Championship greeting the 2014 is to be lashed out from 18th January.
A Carrom federation official speaking to thepapare.com stated that, “We have received a number of entries this time. Comparatively it is a larger number than the previous years. Therefore we do hope that 2014 would be a Carrom year for Sri Lanka. Also we trust to produce international players under the national scheme from this mega event.”
The 46th consecutive national competition will be the first event which will be held by the Carom federation for the year of 2014.
In 2013, at the 45th National Carrom Championship, Chamil Cooray clinched the men’s singles, while Brindley Wickremasinghe was the Runner up. Chamil was the consecutive winner for the men’s singles for 2003 to 2011 while the title for the 2012 match was clinched by D.N.Fernando, leaving Chamil the runners up.
Joseph Roshita and Chalani Lankmali, the anticipated battlers in 2010, 2011 and 2012 battled hard while the 2013 women’s final was taken away by Chalani.
The 46th National Championship would be held under seven different categories, here Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Veteran Singles and Over-40 Singles would be the major categories.
