The 105th Stubbs Shields Boxing Championships, one of the oldest competitions in the South Asian island, organized by the Education Ministry and Schools Boxing Association was held in the Royal MAS Arena in Colombo as 424 bouts took place in one of the most successful tournaments in the recent past.
The Stubbs Shields is the national competition in which junior, youth, and young senior boxers from across Sri Lanka participate. This year, the championship crowned 36 champions and saw impressive performances, particularly in women’s boxing. The event was organized by the Education Ministry and Schools Boxing Association.
Previously, the organizers held the Layton Cup Boxing Tournament at Negombo Beach, having moved it from the Royal MAS Arena, supporting the growth of boxing in Sri Lanka. This year, Sri Lanka is set to send a record number of boxers to the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.

A remarkable 132 teams participated in the latest Stubbs Shields Boxing Championships, featuring 424 bouts spread across six intense sessions, with the final 36 matches determining the champions.
St. Sylvester College, Kandy, clinched the overall championship title with four gold, two silver, and one bronze medal, marking their fourth consecutive win and 18th overall victory in the Stubbs Shields Championships.
Royal College’s captain, Thenuwan Bandara Meegalla, a Taipei City Box Cup gold medalist, earned the Col. T.Y. Wright Challenge Cup as Best Boxer in the Senior Boys division for his exceptional technical skill.

In the Girls’ division, Siri Perakum Vidyalaya, Kotagala, emerged as champions with three gold and one silver medal, while Sri Pragnarathne Central College, Gelioya, took the runner-up spot with three gold and three bronze medals. Chathuni Jagathya Siriwardhana of Hemamali Girls College, Kandy, won the Best Female Boxer award in the Senior Girls’ 48kg category by defeating MKM Muthuni from Dharmaloka College, Pelmadulla.
