Another match of the Singer – MCA Super Premier League 2023, organized for the 30th time by the Mercantile Cricket Association and Singer Sri Lanka Company, was played today at MCA Grounds in Colombo 7.
The Fairfirst Insurance team recorded their 2nd win of the tournament after securing a 76-run win over the Hayleys Group A team.
After having won the toss, Fairfirst Insurance team decided to bat first, showcasing a brilliant batting display to post 320 runs for losing 9 wickets. This marks the first time that a team crossed the 300-run mark in this year’s tournament.

During their innings, Skipper Moditha Ranathunga and Minod Bhanuka set the platform by making a 122-run partnership off 109 balls for the 3rd wicket. Skipper Moditha was the chief scorer with 76-ball 81 runs, including 8 fours and 4 sixes, while Minod Bhanuka scored 65 off 67 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes.
Apart from that, Anuk Fernando also contributed well with the bat as he got 45 runs off 48 deliveries, which includes a couple of 4’s and 6’s apiece. In the bowling front, Lahiru Samarakoon was able to pick 4/67, while Kavishka Anjula took 2/41.
Chasing 321 to win, Skipper Avishka Fernando and Ron Chandraguptha provided the Hayleys Group A team a good start by adding 65 runs in just 8.5 overs. Avishka was the first to depart as he scored a 22-ball 39, including 4 fours and 3 sixes. Ron Chandraguptha was their top scorer with a 58-run knock off 65 balls with 8 fours.

Santhush Gunathilake added a useful 32 runs to the total. Apart from that, no one really contributed when they were chasing, and were eventually bowled out for 244 with 41 deliveries to spare. In the bowling department, Asela Cigera bagged 4 wickets for 41 runs, while Nuwan Thushara and Thanuka Dabare shared 2 wickets apiece as well.
