American football, a close cousin of Rugby was introduced to Sri Lanka in 2011 by Elite Football League of India, Sri Lanka office with the mission of giving the Sri Lankan youth the opportunity to participate in the exciting game of American football which is one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
Having held the first ever University flag football tournament in 2014, the game has grown from strength to strength in the Island with a host of youngsters showing keen interest in the sp,ort.
This year the 2nd EFLI Triangular American Football League supported by South Asia Gateway Terminal as it’s platinum sponsor, is to be held from the 4th of November to 11th of November at the Race Course International Stadium, Colombo 7. Two Sri Lankan teams (Jaffna Bulls & Colombo Lions) & a Pakistani team (Peshawar WolfPak) will battle out for honors at this triangular encounter.
In order to add some experience and fire power into the teams, the organizers have decided to include an US Embassy staff member in each of the teams as they look to reinforce the teams gearing up for the tournament.

All games will kick off at 4.15pm at the Race Course Stadium and there will be no gate charge. Do make your way there to witness the game of American Football take the Island shores and be part of this latest sporting spectacle.
