Strong performance from the Boys from Reid Avenue not enough to regain the Trophy

27th Royal Thomian Annual Football Encounter 2024

The 27th annual Royal Thomian football encounter ended in a one-all draw today (27th September) at the Royal College Sports complex with S. Thomas’ College retaining the trophy as the previous winner of this historical encounter.

S. Thomas’ College took the lead in the 6th minute courtesy of a brilliant strike by Nikil Jeshuran from the right wing. Jeshuran attempted a cross but overcooking it went in the favour of the Thomians as it caught the Royal keeper off-guard. Since the goal had been scored, the Thomians didn’t show the consistency and fluidity shown in the opening minutes of the game.

Due to some unorganised defensive work shown by S. Thomas’, Royal College took advantage of it and equalised through Ahmed netting the ball into the back of the net in the 31st minute.

Going into the second half Royal College was the better team, retaining the ball more consistently and creating trouble to the Thomian Defence. Royal College struck the woodwork a couple of times but didn’t have the luck to hit the back of the net in any of those occasions.

With the game coming to an end with the score being one all the Thomians took home the trophy to keep it safe at Mount Lavinia for another year safely.
