Two games in Tier A of the Schools U19 Cricket Tournament were played today (26th March) while 4 other traditional matches started.
Schools U19 Cricket Tournament 2021 – Tier A
Gurukula College defeated D.S. Senanayake College in a low-scoring encounter as they wrote a 5-wicket win with a bonus point.
Abishek Liyanarachchi scored a fighting fifty for his otherwise collapsing team to help D.S. post 169 runs on board.
His knock was bettered by the Gurukula boys as Rashmika Mevan made a valuable half-century and Kemira Nayanatharu struck 43 runs to see them past the line.
Tharusha Madushan’s fifer was the fuel for the win for Gurukula College.
Schools U19 Division 1 – Traditional Matches
In traditional matches that began today, Senash Fernando of St. Sebastian’s College was the star with the bat as he scored 102 runs out of the 241 runs St. Sebastian’s made. Senash was supported by a useful fifty from Bihanga Mendis.
St. Joseph’s skipper Dunith Wellalage scored a classy 71 in their traditional game against Royal College while Bhanuka Manohara (75) and Kavindu Nirmana (57*) of Richmond College, Galle joined him in the half-century makers club today.
In bowling, Dharmasoka College captain, Lohan de Soyza, grabbed the spotlight while Sahan Sankalpa (Dharmasoka College), Sonal Amarasekara (Royal College), Gishan Balasooriya (Royal College) all impressed with 3 wickets a piece.
