The 25th Junior National Squash Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Squash Federation will be worked off at the Tamil Union Squash Complex from 18th to 25th October under eighteen categories comprising of both Girls and Boys Junior events. The tournament is sponsored by Ritzbury Chocolates.
The tournament is considered the most prestigious junior event in the domestic squash calendar and junior players are fully geared up to put up their best performance to clinch the championship. Ravindu Laksiri and Mihiliya Methsarani are the top favorites to win the U-19 Junior National titles.
Ravindu Laksiri is the current defending Men’s junior and senior National champion having won the junior title for the last two years. Since then Ravindu has been dominating both the junior and senior events before losing to Dilshan Gunawardena in the SSC Open Men’s open final although he was unbeaten in the u-19 category for the last two years. Next in line for the top spot is the bottom seed Shamil Wakeel who is already placed no 4 in the Men’s open category.
Meanwhile Mihiliya Methsarani the defending Senior and Junior National Champion has been flying high this year being unbeaten in both u -19 and women’s open categories. Wasundara Suwaris and Fathoum Issadeen will be the other top contestants.
Shamil Wakil and Indeera Wijayapura are expected to do well in the boys u-17 event while Druwinka Perera and Tuwin Nilakshana are the top favorites to clinch the u-15 title. Methmal Wood, Thinura Randima and Senith Dias will lead the boys U13, U 11 and U 09 categories as the top seeds.
Wasundara Suwaris and Fathoum Issadeen are the top contestants for the Girl’s U-17 category while Kasuni Gunawardena and Kiara Guruge are the top favorites for the Girl’s U-15 category. Dewmini Gallage and Sameera Deen are the top two seeds in the Girl’s U-13 category while Yehani Kuruppu and Chanithma Sinaly are the top two seeds for the Girl’s U-11 category.
Entries for the tournament close at 1.00 PM on 15th October 2014 while The draw will be conducted at 7.30 pm on 15th October 2014 at SLSF Secretariat, Tamil Union and will be displayed at the Tamil Union squash courts by 6.30 PM on 17th October 2014.Any observations/query on the draw to be intimated not later than 10.00 pm, 17th October 2014
