Maliyadeva College Kurunagala took on Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda today in an interschool cricket match played in Ambalangoda.

The visitor’s winnings the toss decided to bat first and managed to put on 181 runs in their first innings with Keshan Wijeratne smashing 53 runs. However the highlight of the day was the bowling of right arm off spinner Ramesh Mendis who picked up 8 wickets for 70 runs in his quota of over’s. 

Mendis who is one of the highest wicket takers this season continued his bowling brilliance with another solid performance. The Shokians batting in their first innings could not beat the first innings score of Maliyadeva as they were shot out for 141 runs with Adeesha Thilanchana scoring 50 runs. 

Most of the Maliyadeva bowlers chipped in with wickets with Thineth Manishka grabbing the highest, capturing 3 wickets for 12 runs. The visitors in their 2nd innings with a lead of 40 runs ended day one in disastrous manner with four batsmen back in the pavilion for just 9 runs. The combination of skipper Yohan De Silva and Ramesh Mendis came back with vengeance capturing all 4 wickets between then with de Silva ending day one with figures of 3 wickets for 2 runs.
