The All Island Inter schools under 18 seven aside rugby tournament will get underway this weekend and will see 23 teams participate in the tournament.
The tournament will be broken down in to 8 groups (A-H) with participation from the South, Sabaragamuwa and Uva. Group ‘D’ will feature only two teams which includes, St. Peters and Vidyartha whereas all other groups will have 3 teams each vying for honors. With the intention of putting rugby in the Island map, the Sri Lanka schools association has taken drastic measures to invite combined teams from the outskirts to uplift and spread the game across the country.
It is learnt that this sevens tournament will act as a selection tournament for the U-18 Sevens National pool which will take part in the 2nd Asian Youth Championship, to be played in Nanjing China in August.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off at 9am with the game between Science College and Piliyandala central being the first.
