18 Sri Lankan players will go under the hammer in the upcoming IPL (Indian Premier League) auctions scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on January 27-28, 2018.
Out of the initial 1122 players who expressed interest, the final auction list of players has been pruned down to 578, out of which 360 are Indian players and 218 foreign players.
Mumbai Indians likely to release Lasith Malinga for IPL auction
With a total of 18 players already retained by the eight franchises, and with the squad size limit of 25, a maximum of 182 players (out of the 578) will be traded during the event in Bengaluru.
From the 18 Sri Lankan players, Angelo Mathews has set a base price of 2 Crore (Indian Rupees) while speedster Lasith Malinga who was released from Mumbai Indians will start bidding from 1 Crore (Indian Rupees). The rest of the 16 Sri Lankans have set a base price of 50 lacs (Indian Rupees).
The auction pool has been divided into different sets based on the area of expertise of the player.

Players like R Ashwin, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Christopher Gayle, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Glenn Maxwell, Joe Root, Mitchell Starc, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Shakib Hasan – each priced at INR 2 crore are some of the big international stars who will go under the hammer.
The 11th cash-rich IPL will commence on 4th April and will go on till 31st May this year.
“A lot of strategizing and number-crunching is involved before a cricketer is picked at the IPL Player Auction. The dynamic nature of the auction makes it unpredictable and exciting.” Rajiv Shukla, Chairman, IPL said.
A total of 36 players will go into the auctions with a base price of Rs 2 Crore. The complete breakdown is as follows:
