17th Singapore Open Artistic Swimming Championships 2023

A team of 17 Sri Lankan Age Group Artistic Swimmers will take wing tonight, 13th December 2023, to compete at the 17th Singapore Open Artistic Swimming Championships 2023 at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, which is to be held from 14th to 17th December 2023.

This tour marks the first international outing for Sri Lankan Artistic Swimmers since 2019 due to the COVID-19 setback.

In essence, the team comprises many new Swimmers, and the focus is to gain experience at international competitions.

The regulations governing artistic swimming were revised multiple times during the outbreak by World Aquatics. The new rules were put into effect by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union this year, yet the Swimmers will be going back to compete in Singapore under a set of hybrid rules.

The Sri Lankan team will compete under 4 groups/ age categories as follows:

Group C: 12 & Under

  1. Khiara Goonetilleke – Solo
  2. Amara Watson Kittle from Ladies’ College – Solo
  3. Aheli Joseph from Ladies’ College – Solo

Group B – Youth: 13-15 years

  1. Venuki Wijesena from Aurora Synchro Club (Studying Overseas) – Solo
  2. Satvi Arjuna from Aurora Synchro Club (Colombo International School) – Solo & Duet
  3. Sanuki Suraweera from Aurora Synchro Club (Elizabeth Moir School) – Solo & Duet
  4. Ayla Watson Kittle from Ladies’ College – Duet
  5. Andrea Thirukumar from Ladies’ College – Duet

Group A – Junior: 15 – 19 years

  1. Nischka Nanayakara from Ladies’ College – Solo
  2. Manekha Gomez from Visakha Vidayalaya – Solo & Duet
  3. Shasheni Fernando from Musaeus College – Duet
  4. Sandali Sumathipala from Musaeus College – Duet
  5. Piyushi Kualasekera from Visakha Vidyalaya – Solo & Duet

Senior Open – 15 years above

  1. Tanalia Rekawa from Aurora Synchro Club – Solo
  2. Lourdi Perera from Aurora Synchro Club – Solo & Duet
  3. Jithmi Perera from Aurora Synchro Club – Duet
  4. Yalindee Premaratne from Aurora Synchro Club – Solo

In addition to this, the team will be led by the Head Coach Ms. Dehara Katipearachchi, with Mr. Akhry Ameer as the Team Manager and a Judge. Ms. Gihara Amarasinghe will be the Lady Chaperone. In addition to this, Ms. Imashi Gamage will officiate at the competition as a Judge.
