Cricket matches of the 13th Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG) began this Saturday (20th) with 6 matches being played in several parts of the island.
The 14-team tournament comprises of 4 groups out of which the 4 group toppers will compete in the play-offs.

The first week of play saw defending champions University of Sri Jayawardenepura thumping Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka by a commanding 204 runs while runners-up of the last SLUG Cricket tournament in 2016, University of Kelaniya and University of Peradeniya also registered comfortable wins.
Hosts University of Ruhuna were beaten by University of Jaffna, who traveled all the way from the north of the country to its very bottom.
