A swashbuckling 126 for the fifth wicket between Sahan Arachchige and Dasun Wijesinghe helped Ananda College reached a commanding 203 for four at stumps on day one in their U-19 inter- school cricket match against St. Joseph’s College at Darley Road today.
Ananda batting first lost four for 77 but the duo batted sensibly to rescue their innings. Arachchige spared 131 balls for his unbeaten 73 which included ten boundaries and a six while his partner was not out on 50 off 106 balls with five boundaries.
Opener L Jayasekara made 35 with seven boundaries.
Malshan Rodrigo and Shammi Seneviratne shared the four wickets that fell on day one before bad light forced a early finish to the day’s play.
With just a day to go, the match is certainly heading for a draw.
