It was no doubt a pleasing sight for the sport in the country, as hundreds of young kids flocked the Sri Lanka Tennis Association main entrance with their parents to play their qualifiers in the national championships. For most of these young minds, this was the first step in their professional tennis career which is quite a big achievement for the sport.

The massive number in the participation slots in the under 10 & under 16 categories made the tournament officials to move into an initial qualification round before progressing onto the main draw. The qualifying rounds for the Boys’ Under 10 Singles, Girl’s Under 10 Singles & Boys’ Under 16 Singles took place and the winners of each round progressed to the main qualifiers.

The qualifying games for the Under 10 age category was judged on the first to reach 5 games and the first to reach 9 games was adjudged the winner in the Under 16 category. In the event where any player was absent, a walkover was awarded to the player present at the courts.
