The junior Asiad which is to be worked off from the 21st to the 28th of August in Thailand will see two of the best and most senior coaches in the country Sanath Martis and Nihal (viper jnr) Guneratne take on the coaching role for the tournament.

The duo take over from Bilal Yusuf the former Royal College coach and current CR&FC coach and also Nilufer Ibrahim the current Kingswood College coach who guided the junior team last year to defeat South Korea for the first time in Sri Lanka's rugby history. Sri Lanka finished in third  position in the tournament played in Singapore under the captaincy of last year's Isipathana skipper Niroshan Fernando.

Sanath Martis who moulded many unbeaten teams in his tenure as coach especially at his current stay at St.Peters College will look to do the same with a young and talented bunch. Martis who guided the Peterites to the helms of rugby this year by clinching both the sevens titles and the league would want to end his season on a high. He will be supported by one of the most reputed coaches in the country, and the only IRB educator in the Island, Nihal Guneratne. The former Anthonian too has been a great servant of the game of rugby for Sri Lanka and produced many champion winning team. This season he had a minor stint with the Thomian outfit who had an inconsistent year ending up at fifth in the league.

More interestingly Sanath Martis will take on the role as the coach of the Colombo Blues while his partner Nihal Guneratne will guide the Kandy Reds when they meet on the 07th of August for the ‘BATTLE OF THE STARS’ at the CR&FC which is organized by ThePapare.com.

The experienced double will undoubtedly bring glory to the Nation when they fly to Thailand on the 20th of August.

Junior Asiad clashes with A/L exams. Rather unfortunate but my sympathies are with the boys who will be forced to make a choice.

wonder what happened to nilufer ibraihim? coached his team to 2nd place in the league and had a good result with last years asiad..serious slip up there in my opinion no dispespect to the coaches picked but may be a case of who you know than rather than what you know gives you the job

No disrespect for the selections made. But my view about coaches

good coaches are people who can make an average guy perform at his best and make them good players and make an average team play like champions. Not people who get good players and assemble a team.

From where can Sanath Martis import players for the junior national team. A god coach is capable of grooming and developing a team from the resources available to him.

Martis did all wonders with the Pathana 92 team winning all trophies ...that was without IMPORTS...he deserves credit for that!!!!
