The national selectors announced all three Sri Lanka squads to face New Zealand in the upcoming full tour. The series will begin on the3rd of December and go on until the 10th January 2016.
Top-order batsmen Lahiru Thirimanne and Kaushal have been dropped from the Test squad alongside off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal. Uncapped opener Udara Jayasundara and rising leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay have been drafted into the squad.
The 20-year old wicketkeeper-batsman, Kusal Mendis who took Thirimanne’s place in Colombo, will fight for the number 3 slot with Kithuruwan Vithanage who also made a return to the Test squad, following good outings with Sri Lanka A in New Zealand last month.
Jayasundera’s inclusion was expected after he hit two half-centuries against New Zealand A in Christchurch and Lincoln in October, a week after making 142 against the West Indians in a Colombo practice match. The 24-year-old has been a consistent domestic performer for Ragama Cricket Club and struck 842 runs during the 2014/15 Premier League Tournament.
Leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay has been added in all three squads while Chamara Kapugedara returns to the ODI fold after three years replacing all-rounder Shehan Jayasuriya while left-arm seamer Isuru Udana has also been included for the T20Is.
Vice-captain Lahiru Thirimanne will only feature in the ODI squad while Ajantha Mendis and Nuwan Kulasekara has found their spot only in ODI and T20I squads respectively.
