Lakshan Jayasinghe’s 7 for 27 propels SSC to victory

Four matches out of six produced results during the third match day in the AIA Premier Limited Overs Tournament 2015/16 on Monday.

SSC, Colts, Bloomfield and Badureliya notched up crucial wins over Moors, Ragama, Chilaw Marians and Galle respectively while two games ended in no result including a full-match washout.

SSC vs Moors

20-year old left-arm spinner Lakshan Jayasinghe picked up 7 scalps for 27 as SSC clinched a 6-wicket win over Moors at Braybrooke Place.

The match had a delayed start due to wet outfield and the game was restricted to a 37-over encounter. The hosts’ mustered only 160 all out as left-handed opener, Mahela Udawatte top-scored with a fine 78. Chasing 161 runs to win, SSC innings was guided by Kaushal Silva’s exciting 57 while the finishing touches were made by young Ramesh Mendis and experienced Thilina Kandamby.

Moors – 160 all out in 33.1 overs: Mahela Udawatte 78, Irosh Samarasuriya 24, Lakshan Jayasinghe 7/27.

SSC – 165/4 in 35.3 overs: Kaushal Silva 57, Minod Bhanuka 26, Thilina Kandamby 37*, Ramesh Mendis 28*, Sachithra Serasinghe 2/29.

Colts vs Ragama

Defending champions, Colts Cricket Club got their first win of the tournament when they trounced Ragama Cricket Club by 6 wickets at Thurstan grounds.

The Colts spinners bowled excellently on a slow surface as Ragama managed only 158. Former Thomian Shashrika Pussegolla played an excellent unbeaten knock of 55. Leg-spinner Sanka Ramesh and left-arm spinner Prabhath Jayasuriya shared 5 wickets between them. Former SL under 19 player, Hashan Dumindu stroked 53* while former Peterite skipper Shehan Fernando made 40 as the visitors chased down the target comprehensively.

Ragama – 158 all out in 49.3 overs: Shashrika Pussegolla 55*, Chanaka Wijesinghe 24, Sanka Ramesh 3/29, Prabhath Jayasuriya 2/22.

 

Colts – 160/4 in 35 overs: Hashan Dumindu 53*, Shehan Fernando 40, Akila Dhananjaya 24, Thilaksha Sumanasiri 1/23.

Badureliya SC vs Galle CC

Rising fast-bowler Kasun Rajitha took a 5-wicket haul as Badureliya defeated Galle by 53 runs at Surrey Village grounds in Maggona.

Batting first, Badureliya amassed 218 in their 50 overs. Opener Sameen Kandenarachchi and Hasantha Fernando made half-centuries while current Sri Lanka under 19 captain, Charith Asalanka grabbed 4 wickets. The newly-promoted Galle outfit failed in their chase as they were bundled out for only 165. TN Sampath top-scored with 70. Apart of Kasun’s five-wicket haul, skipper Imesh Udayanga took 4 wickets with his off-spinners.

Badureliya – 218/9 in 50 overs: Sameen Kandenarachchi 62, Hasantha Fernando 58, Imesh Udayanga 24, Charith Asalanka 4/40.

Galle – 165 all out in 42.5 overs: TN Sampath 70, Charitha Buddhika 25, Chamara Silva 20, Kasun Rajitha 5/37, Imesh Udayanga 4/28.

Bloomfield vs Chilaw Marians

Bloomfield scraped through to a close 2-run win (According to D/L method) over Chilaw Marians at BOI grounds in Katunayake.

In another rain-affected game, Bloomfield managed to post 169 from their 38 overs. Opener Primosh Perera scored 42 runs. Saranga Rajaguru and Nimesh Perera took 2 wickets apiece. The hosts in their chase was 84 for 3 in 22 overs when bad light stopped play. Left-arm seamer Vishwa Fernando took 2 wickets early on for the visitors.

Bloomfield skipper Madawa Warnapura took the prized wicket of his counterpart, Bhanuka Rajapaksa 3 balls before the stoppage which was the vital factor in the outcome of the game.

Bloomfield – 169/9 in 38 overs: Primosh Perera 42, Deshan Dias 25, Adeesha Nanayakkara 27*, Nimesh Perera 2/17, Saranga Rajaguru 2/21, Dinuk Hettiarachchi 2/32.

Chilaw Marians – 84/3 in 22 overs: Kasun Vidura 34*, Bhanuka Rajapaksa 39, Vishwa Fernando 2/14.

SL Ports Authority vs Tamil Union

Wet ground conditions and bad light prevented a result at CCC grounds.

Former Sri Lanka Test opener, Tharanga Paranavithana blasted 77 off 47 balls for Tamil Union after the match resumed at 2.30pm with a 24-over limit. Former Anthonian Manoj Sarathchandra stroked a 45-ball 58 as well. SL Ports Authority were 70 for 1 in reply of Tamil Union’s 176.

Tamil Union – 176/3 in 24 overs: Tharanga Paranavithana 77*, Manoj Sarathchandra 58*, Pabasara Waduge 23, Ashan Priyanjan 2/15.

SL Ports Authority – 70/1 in 10.4 overs: Ashan Priyanjan 36*, Lasith Lakshan 25*.


The match between Saracens Sports Club and Colombo Cricket Club at De Zoysa grounds in Moratuwa was called-off due to wet ground conditions before a ball being bowled.
