Junior tennis tournament organized by the Mahaweli Reach Hotel Kandy was the second consecutive time ended yesterday

It was a new platform for the junior tennis players in the hill country to compete in a classy arena and to evince the potential in them. The event took place at Mahaweli Reach Hotel courts in five different days sequentially from 7th April to 11th April, 2013. Surprisingly participants turned up in numbers to take part in this event, more or less there were hundred participants. Events took place under five age categories for both boys and girls. This was the only tennis event which was organized in such a grand scale in the hills of Sri Lanka.
It was energetic right from the beginning as all participants gave up their optimum in competing, however only few marked their positions in finals. The first final was played between M.A.M Shamil and NipunaNuwan in which Shamil won the sets for 7-3 and was titled as Under 11 Boys singles champion. Then Shamil competed against BanuraJayawardena for Under 13 Boys singles title in which Banura earned the victory by winning the sets for 7-5. The next match in the fixture was the Under 11 Girls singles final in which Oshini Herath played against Tiara Benaragama. Oshini made an outstanding win by winning the sets for 7-2. Later Oshini played against Kaveesha Supunsara in the Girls under 13 singles. Although she gave a tough fight, Kaveesha won sets 7-4.
The under 15 boys finals was played between UvinJayalath and M.R.N Aalam, Uvin made an easy win by 9-2 in the sets. Naveed Mohammed competed against Uvin Jayalath. Uvin gained no chance to counter Naveed’s attack of 6-love. Next Naveed took over M.Fahad by winning the sets 9-7 in the Boys under 19 finals. Naveed was prominent throughout the competition.
Ayomi Perera competed against Kaveesha Supunsara in Under 15 Girls finals. Ayomi obtained an easy win by winning the sets 7-2. Nimaya Ganhewa played verses Hiruni Weerasekara. Hiruni thrashed Niyama by winning the sets by 9-3.
In doubles men Mihin Jayalath and Banura Pahan achieved an easy win in Under 13 category by winning the sets by 7-3 against M.A.M Shamil and M.I Husain. Uvin Jayalath and Vimukthi Bowattage made a fabulous victory against Dammika Dananjaya and Yasiith Rathnayake by winning the sets for 9-love.
Girls Under17 doubles was terminated by Hiruni Weerasekara and Nimaya Ganhewa winning the sets for 9-2 against Jithmi Galapaththige and Anuki Jayawardena. The final game of all in the tournament was the under 19 Boys doubles. Amri Muhajireen and Naveed Mohamed made a boosting victory against Yashwin Palihandana and Akee lSalahudeen.
The event was concluded with an award ceremony under the patronage of Mr. Jayantha Panabokke, Managing Director – Mahaweli Reach Hotel. Also with the presence of Mr. Jayapathy De Silva, Human Resource Manager – Mahaweli Reach and Mr. NilanthaUnamboowe, Asst. Manager - Mahaweli Reach. Awards were presented for all winners in every event by the dignitaries.
All credits goes to Mr. Nithila Unamboowe and K Sudarshan (Coach) who were the two pillars in organizing such an event in the hills of Sri Lanka.
