CR down Airmen 17-13

CR&FC recorded their first victory in the second round when they beat Air force 17 (2 tries, 2 conversion, 1 penalties) to 13(2 tries, 1 drop goal) in a Dialog Rugby League “A” Division match played at Air Force Ground yesterday. At half time CR led 17-5.

 

Reds opened the first try in the 7th minute of the game when Kanchana Ramanayake crossed over the try line. Kanchan who had a good time in the Borneo 7s last weekend was in a fine form. Trinitian Tharinda Ratwatte made his club debut with no mistake on the conversion adding 7 points for the visitors.

Visitors were awarded a penalty for an off side offence in the 10th minute and their place- kicker got it accurate and added another three points for the Reds.

Airmen’s draw their first blood in the 15th minute when in form Nuwan Perera scored an unconverted try which reduced their pressure.

The little scrum half Dilan Zoysa who scored a superb try for CR, and Tharinda Ratwatte made no mistake with the kick and the score was 17-5 at half time in favour of CR&FC.

At the resumption of the second half, the Air Force player Nuwan Perera who made a successful drop goal added three more points for the Airmen and soon after that the host’s more reliable Fijian centre Vilikesa Koilage got into the act with a try which gave momentum spark for the hosts.  

However, CR holding on possession and good defense prevent airmen going past a win. 

At the final whistle score board read 13-17 in favor of CR.
