Sri Lanka marathoner Anuradha Indrajith Cooray was denied the Gold in the Men’s Marathon at the 2016 South Asian Games, in what seemed to be poor an organizing and communication error.
Cooray finished a second behind the eventual winner Nitender Singh Rawat, in 2:15:19.00hrs. According to reports both Rawat and Cooray were under the assumption that they had another lap to run in the Stadium while it was not so.
Organizers claim that they had briefed the necessary parties at the Mangaer’s meeting before the race.
In the Women’s Marathon Geethani Rajasekara won the Silver Medal finishing in 2:50:47.00hrs while Lakmini Anuradhi won the Bronze Medal finishing in 2:52:15.00hrs.
