Blue Star gets first win; Solid, Super Sun held; Crystal Palace & Java Lane in easy wins

Blue Star SC recorded their first win in the 2015 Dialog Champions League season when they defeated Matara City Club 1-0 at the Vernon Fernando Stadium.

Yankson Richards’ penalty broke a resolute Matara City defense that are now bottom of group B having lost all four of their matches conceding 10 and scoring just 2 goals. It was relief for Blue Star and newly appointed coach Laksiri Senevirathne registering the first win in three matches after losing to Colombo FC and drawing against Java Lane.

A nervous Blue Star SC had to wait until the final minutes of the match to see the only goal of the match, when Richards’ converted the penalty in the 88th minute of the match much to the disappointment of Matara City.

 

Crystal Palace goes top of group A

Crystal Palace SC who are on a dream run went atop of group A when they comfortably defeated Nandimithra SC 2-0 at the Kelaniya Football Complex.

Crystal Palace who were promoted from Division I last season have won 3 of the five matches with only one loss to a strong Army SC side. Crystal Palace are on 10 points while Army on 9 points with two games in hand.

For Crystal Palace it Jean Francois who scored both the goals in the match as the Gampola based side dominated play against the hosts.

 

Pelicans thump Highlanders

Pelicans SC defeated the newly promoted Division I champions Highlanders SC 3-0 at St.Anne’s Ground in Kurunegala.

Pelicans went into halftime with a two goal advantage and the third goal was scored near the end of the match. K.Micheal gave the hosts the lead in the 6th minute while T.O.Daniel doubled the lead in the 19th minute. P.Saranraj capped off a dominant performance with the third and final goal in the 82nd minute.

With the win Pelicans SC comes to the top four of group A behind Army and Air Force having won two and lost two.  

 

New Youngs defeats Don Bosco

New Youngs SC inflicted back to back defeats on Don Bosco winning 1-0 at the Albert F.Peiris Stadium in Wennapuwa.

Don Bosco were defeated 3-0 by home two rivals Negombo Youth last week and now have lost to the Wennapuwa based side. K.Mirendra scored the only goal just before half time.

New Youngs are now in third place of group B behind Colombo FC and Navy having won three and lost one with nine points. 

 

Up Country Lions defended stoutly as they earned a valuable point at home against the reigning Champions, Solid SC. The match ended 0-0 at the Jayathilake Stadium in Nawalapitiya.

 

Thihariya Youth earned a well-deserved point against a strong Super Sun side away from at the Vernon Fernando Stadium where the match ended 0-0.
