Suraj Dandeniya, President of Sri Lanka Badminton Association believes that the ban on Sri Lanka by the World Badminton Federation could be lifted in December this year. He said this at the press conference which was held to launch the 63rd National Badminton Championship on Wednesday at OBA in Colombo.

He further stated that he hopes to speak with authorities and get the support from the Asian Badminton Association regarding the ban, when they meet on the 15 October at the ABA council meeting.

Also said the Sports Minister and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) have supported their cause immensely.

“At the meeting of the World Badminton Federation on 26 October in Paris, we hope to clearly show them why the ban should be lifted.”

Meanwhile, this time the 63rd National Badminton Championship will be held on 22 to 27 October at Anuradhapura. Nearly 32 events will take place. The winner of both men’s and women’s open singles will be given awards of Rs. 50, 000/- each.

H.K. Somadasa Mayor of Anuradhapura will grace the occasion as chief guest.
