Police vs Air Force called off due to brawl

Air Force SC`s defense line had to stand down to the mighty attack of the Police SC which gave them upper hand of the match which was later called off due a clash which started between the players and then spilled over into a free for all with supporters from both sides joining in.

The second round match of the Dialog Club Rugby League 2013 for the Plate between Police SC and Air Force SC was kicked off sharp at 4.30 pm as scheduled at Havelock Grounds today.

Police SC drew first blood inside the first minute just seconds after the kick off when their main foreign expatriate player Naqalevu Apisaia streamed through the defence of Air Force SC and touched the ball on the grass to get the early lead. The try was converted by Rasith Silva to set up the early hand as 7-0. (Police 07-Air Force 00)

Right after, the Air Force SC came back well but failed to start to score board ticking. When Police SC was awarded a penalty a lovely kick by Nagalevu Apisaia  helped the Police SC to gain the upper hand of the game. (Police 10-Air Force 00)

It was a spectacular display of talent by the Police SC`s Center Nagalevu Apisaia as he ran through the defence of the Air Force SC with mighty hand off` and started troubling the scorers with another try which was later converted by himself and yet the Air Force SC had to back down on the defence of the Police SC while their score board remained 00. Police SC outsmarted the Air Force SC when points came raining down as fellow foreign player and the fellow center Rocobiau Nasoni let himself through with a brilliant try which was later converted by Nagalevu Apisaia and made the Air Force SC to change their strategies. Another try was scored by Police SC by Nagalevu Apisaia and converted by himself moving the score up to 31.  Finally Sri Lanka Air Force bagged their first points when they were awarded with a penalty and  winger Asanka Perera sailed the ball through the uprights. (Police 31 – Air Force 03)

It was a controversial game with the issuing of the yellow card by the referee to Jeewan Amaradasa of Police SC.  There was a spectacular display of high class rugby by the two foreign players of Police SC. Air Force SC finally made an impact with  a try scored off brilliantly and helped the score board to even out.  Conversion failed. (Police 31-Air Force 08)

Luck played a part for Air Force SC when the Captain Charith Senevirathene sailed the ball through for a penalty that was awarded and moved up the score to bring them back in the game. (Police 31-Air Force 11). Finally the Air Force started to find their touch in the game and  Asanka Perera scored off the with a brilliant display of play with the help of the team mates to edge closer to the opponents.  Conversion came through for captain Senevirathene – (Police  31- Air Force 19)

The game heating up with  the spectators egging on their players and the game moving into a nail biting finish.  The  Police SC center scored off a penalty; the try made the  Air Force fans sit back on their seats and wait for a miracle to take place. (Police 34 –Air Force 18)

With the pressure mounting on the Air Force SC and the crowd on the very edge of the side line itself anticipating a turn over for Air Force SC, the two teams collided with a heated argument  over a late tackle which broke into a fight between the players that spilled over into the crowd. It was a shocking display of indiscipline by the two national security forces.  The fight only ended up when the senior officials of both the sides came on the ground and dispersed the people.

The referees decided to call the game off due to indiscipline showed by both parties and let the tournament committee deal with the decision. It was indeed a pity as it would have ended as a high class game with furious Rugby on display.
