Police utilize all their tricks to beat an audacious Sharks

Sri Lanka Police Sports Club had to utilize all their tricks in the bag to beat an audacious Hambanthota Sharks team by 12 points to 9 points in their Dialog inter club ‘A’ division league rugby tournament first round match played at the Beliatta stadium today.

This match was of course called off early due to bad weather and the winners collected their points from one goal and one try after having led 12-6 at half time while the Hambanthota Sharks responded with three penalties.

Even then the Policemen were stretched to their limits in the second half when the host team came from behind to close a 12-3 half time gap.

Police SC scored a goal and a try to make up their 12 points all in the first half as hooker Rasith Silva and scrum half Milinda Bandara crossed the line for tries thanks to their excellent rucking and mauling.

In addition former Royal College fly half and dynamic place kicker Arshad Jamaldeen converted one try and missed adding the extra points to the other as Police SC piled on the points in the first half.

Hambanthota Sharks SC of course lost out in forwards play with a pack that was less effective than the Police SC ‘eight’ and raked in their points from three penalties put over by their Samoan centre Faialanga.
