Left arm pace bowler and Sri Lanka Youth skipper Chathura Peiris put NCC in the driving seat with a six wicket haul against Chilaw Marians on the 1st day of the under 23 final played at the SSC grounds yesterday.NCC skipper Roshan Laksiri’s decision to field first looked in favour of the Marians when they were 214 for 4 with two good partnerships which involved Geeth Kumara who scored 98.

Harshana Godamanna defeated Dineshkanthan Thangarajah to become the National Champion a few hours ago. This is the fifth time that Harshana Godamanna has won the Tennis Nationals Tournament. He first won the title in 2005 and then in 2006, 2008 and 2009. In the Men’s finals he defeated Dineshkanthan Thangarajah 6/0, 6/3 and 6/4 displaying some splendid tennis.

The Sri Lankan contingent that took part in the Shanghai 7’s tournament for the second year running lost their cup quarter finals 21-14 against the defending champs Korea. The score line suggests that it was a closely fought out game. A full match report will be posted soon. The Sri Lanka team will be heading back to the country after the loss since the second day is played on knock out basis.

ThePapare was able to catch the Sri Lanka rugby team just before they departed for the Shanghai rugby tournament in China. The press conference was held by the Sri Lanka rugby football union at the colombo 7 office. they will start off by competing against Hong Kong which is scheduled to be their first match and then they will face China and Philippines.
