Favourites Royal College had a good outing on day one scoring a commanding 283 runs in their first innings for the loss of 9 wickets. They declared their innings with an hour’s play left in the game and were able to get a Thomian wicket before the close of play that of fresher Brian Dharmasena.

Thomian opening bat Kavindu Perera has been ruled out for the annual Royal Thomian encounter due to a fractured toe. Team sources told ThePapare that Perera had fractured his toe while fielding at the SSC at 10 am today. The loss of Perera who is a hard hitting batsman would be a big blow to the Thomians,Perera’s replacement is likely to be seventeen year old Brian Dharmasena.

ThePapare caught up with the Thomian team at one of their training sessions before the big match at the SSC. They seemed fired up and ready to go out there and prove everyone wrong. We were able to interview the coach Barney Reid, Captain Dinesh Walpita, Senior players Sachin Peiris, Chamodh Pathirana and also freshers leading wicket taker Neomal Wickramasekara and leading run scorer Nuwan Dharshana.

The much anticipated 81st edition of the battle of the Maroons between Ananda College and Nalanda College came to an end yesterday at the SSC with the result being a draw. Both teams were very negative in their approach and seemed as if they did not want to make a match out of it.
