Harshana Godamanna defeated Dineshkanthan Thangarajah to become the National Champion a few hours ago. This is the fifth time that Harshana Godamanna has won the Tennis Nationals Tournament. He first won the title in 2005 and then in 2006, 2008 and 2009. In the Men’s finals he defeated Dineshkanthan Thangarajah 6/0, 6/3 and 6/4 displaying some splendid tennis.

The SLRFU (Sri Lanka rugby football union) held a press conference today for the Sri Lankan rugby team who are touring China for the annual sevens tournament at the union (Colombo 7).The team will be leaving the island on 2nd of September. The much awaited event commences on the 4th and will be concluded on the 5th.The two day rugby festival is a part of the plan to develop rugby in Asia and also mainly in China.

The Men’s singles top and bottom seed made it to the finals at Tennis Nationals Championship. In the first semi final Harshana Godmanna ended new comer Vimuktha De Alwis’s journey defeating him 6/1, 6/0, 6/1 in straight sets with ease. The 16 year old Vimuktha De Alwis was no match to the Sri Lanka number one who had the lead from the start.  In the other semi final bottom seed Dineshkanthan Thangarajah

The Sri Lanka Squash Federation (SLSF) officially announced yesterday that the authoritative body is ready to host the 21st Junior National Squash Championship in Colombo. The President of the SLSF, Oliver Guruge speaking to the media at a press conference held in Gymkhana Sports Club yesterday (1) announced, the tournament would be worked off at the Gymkhana Squash courts from the 18th to 25th of September, this year.

The recent reporting of the sponsorship of the Wayamba Team has seen journalism in a sporting context deteriorate to abysmal levels. Headlines have been sensationalist, petty and irrelevant. SLC has been dragged through the mud, and sadly, so have the Wayamba team who have no say in who their sponsors are. Tarring them with the same brush as the administration during this whole non-issue is petty, vitriolic and unfair.
